In the mornings, we’re more alert, vigilant, and our energy levels and thinking patterns flow high. Here’s how to supercharge your morning routine.
With the cooler weather right around the corner, admit it, your morning routine could probably use some work. Fall is the perfect time to supercharge your morning routine. We are all familiar with the idea that “mornings are the most important part of the day.” In the mornings we’re more alert, vigilant, and our energy levels and thinking patterns flow high. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of ways to supercharge your mornings and make the most of your day.
Positive Affirmations
Affirmations can come in many forms. From writing words in red lipstick on your bathroom mirror to sticky notes on the fridge to reading inspirational quotes from a favourite book, words of affirmation help us hone our focus and strive forward towards our vision and goals. Starting the day with affirmations offers a confidence boost and personal validation.
Hydration
Water. Start your day with a glass of water. Warm, hot, cold but water. Always, water.
Eyes on the Prize
Ask yourself “what am I willing to do today that will get me ahead?” or “what can I accomplish today that will benefit me?”. Be realistic in your answer. This positive approach can be as simple as replacing the word get with having. It mitigates the common tactic of forcing or torturing yourself into carrying out your daily tasks. Try it, it’s supercharge-worthy!
Incorporate Gratitude
Incorporate gratitude into your morning ritual. Reciting or journaling things you’re grateful for combats feelings of defeat, frustration and anxiety. Gratitude is centring, it allows you to be mindful and to see your life and privileges with conscious clarity.
Nourish Yourself
Beginning the day with nourishing food (even something light!) stimulates the mind and body and helps you avoid “hangryness” and low-blood sugar crashes. While starting the day with sugary or carb-heavy foods like doughnuts, pastries and bagels is tempting, your best bet for a supercharged morning are foods high in protein, fibre, omega-3s and other nutrients.
Stretch
Even if you have nowhere to do it but your own living room. The positive benefits associated with stretching include increased blood flow to the brain, increased energy levels and fewer aches and pains. For a supercharge tip, try stretching right out of bed when your muscles are still warm.

Hold the Caffeine (until 10:00am)
While downing a pot of coffee as soon as you awake might be your go-to move for a morning supercharge, science teaches us that consuming caffeine before 10:00am can be harmful to your health, due to the levels of cortisol in your body. Alternatively, stick to the sciency optimization advice and thus, supercharge your afternoon by consuming coffee between 10:00am and 2:00pm.
Limit Screen Time
This is a tough one. But supercharging your morning means resisting the morning browse of Instagram, Facebook, email or whatever your favourite vice is. Do a cost/benefit analysis. Are these platforms hindering your personal clarity first thing in the morning?
Expert Prioritization
Understanding that time is more valuable in the mornings can be a helpful way to organize and prioritize your time. If your most creative or productive time of the day is the mornings, using it on social media becomes a bigger and more serious loss.
Preparation is Everything
A supercharged morning is a well-planned morning. In fact, supercharging your morning begins the night or day before and involves things like buying nutritious groceries, getting enough beauty sleep and not waking up to a sink full of dishes or the realization that the outfit you were intending to wear is laying unwashed on your floor.
In all aspects, intentional, thoughtful preparation is the real key to supercharging your morning routine! How do you get set for the day? Let us know more tips for supercharging your morning routine.
