Beauty Items Every Woman Needs In Her Makeup Kit

Products that I buy over and over again because they work. They’re the right shade, texture, and budget. I love keeping these products in my makeup kit.

I spend most of my money buying the same bottle of wine and brand of toilette paper than I do beauty items.

But there are several beauty products that I do repeatedly buy. Products that I buy over and over again. Because they work. They’re the right shade, texture, sheen and budget. I love keeping these products in my makeup kit.

Show Your Skin Some Love

Primers: There are two primers I love as part of my makeup kit. I am completely devoted to  MAC Prep + Prime Skin.

I love how little of it I can use to cover my entire face. This little bottle of primer goes a long way! I love that the bottle is a pump and two pumps is all it takes. The texture is almost like a mousse, but it applies to my face like a silky cream.

I can see it dissolving into my pores so the finish is very smooth and matte. The light reflectors are awesome and it makes my face look glowy even before I apply any blush or bronzer.

I also love Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. I first got this from Sephora as a travel size, but now I’m convinced it’s worth keeping in my makeup kit. It’s also a great primer for me to alternate with. I must admit I have to use a little bit more to cover my oily t-zone area, but I do love the silk application and finish.

It doesn’t have light reflectors like Prep + Prime does, but as a primer it does a great job and does really keep the oil at bay during the day. I get a great foundation finish with both MAC Prep + Prime Skin and Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer.

Foundation: I don’t use foundation because I don’t like a full coverage base. I use Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Cream in the shade Medium/Deep. I like that it’s a light coverage with SPF included. It finishes very sheer on my skin so while I can layer on my concealer and primer on top, it doesn’t hide my skin underneath.

This is a beauty product I keep in my makeup kit because I don’t need anything too fancy in the coverage department and it’s budget friendly coming in at under $20.

Concealer: I live and die by my MAC Studio Conceal and Correct Palette in Medium Deep. If I could only use one thing every morning and forget the rest, this would be that beauty product. It’s creamy texture works well on my skin. It melts right in and works to brighten up under my eyes. It makes me look like I’ve just woken up from a 12 hour nap, even on those days when I’m getting by on less than five.

Highlighter/Bronzer: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought Too Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer. Even before I discovered MAC, I was all about the Sun Bunny! This bronzer just sticks to my skin – all day! I have yet to repeat buy a blush or bronzer from MAC and drugstore brands don’t last but a few minutes on my skin.

But I repeat buy Sun Bunny like it’s going out of style. A little tap on my brush goes a long way on my skin and it lasts all day into the evening.

A little dusting does the trick for work, while a more heavy-handed heaping is great for nights out on the town. It can work as a contour and highlighter or even as blush. Whether it’s a bright glow on a drab winter day or a more defined contour for an edgy outfit, Too Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer does what I need.

Keep Your Brows & Lashes on Fleek

I love me some brows so I’ve bought both of these same beauty items several times. I toggle back and forth between Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown and MAC Eye Brow Pencil in Spiked.

Along with highlighting under my eyes, creating a good brow does something extra for my face. It just brings it together. And of course, I top off my eyes with Marc Jacobs O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara.

Just Say No to Flaky Lips

Lipstick shades come and go but you’re not going very far without smooth, silky lips. Especially in the dead of winter.

I always have three or four Nivea Essential Lip Care sticks on my person at all times. One for the office, for my shoulder bag, one in the gym bag, one for home, well.. you get the picture.

I like that it’s not too greasy. I find petroleum-based lip care products dry out my lips even more, leaving them flaky and peeling. I like the jojoba oil and shea butter in Nivea Essential Lip Care. It leaves my lips feeling moisturized and soft. Definitely a good idea to have a few of these on your person.

Now it’s your turn. What’s in your makeup kit?
