I’m not about the cheap drugstore beauty products. However, once in a blue moon, I do take a gamble. Here are some good ones that I’ve found.
Typically, I’m not about the cheap drugstore beauty products. I wish I could take advantage of the lower price point, but even the cheap deals would be money well wasted.
My skin is so oily and so sensitive, that most drugstore beauty products either melt within hours of application, or give me an irritating breakout. Aside from my Maybelline BB Cream, I can’t really indulge in cheap drugstore beauty products.
The low quality and low pigments don’t last but an hour on my oily skin. Lipsticks don’t appear after a single gulp of water. Pencils smudge only to leave me with half an eyebrow by 2 o’clock.
The struggle. Is. Real.
However, once in a blue moon, I do take a gamble and purchase a few items from my local drugstore. I can’t help myself. The drugstore is so much more accessible than hauling ass to Sephora or waiting in line at M.A.C.
L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream
As previously referenced, I do religiously wear Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium/Deep. But a colleague recently suggested trying out L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream.
When I told her about my oily skin, she said this BB cream is something she swears by. It blends just as well as Dream Fresh but Skin Beautifier gives her skin a matte finish and keeps it looking matte all day. I was initially skeptical of her claims. But I went ahead and tried the shade Deep.
Skin Beautifier comes out of the tube a lighter white colour. I don’t love the grainy texture—not as silky and creamy as my Maybelline. But the application is okay and it does blend well to match my complexion. Two thumbs up!
Maybelline Brow Precise
The story of how I ended up trying Maybelline Brow Precise pencil in Deep Brown goes: I was at the hair salon one day getting prepped and pampered for an evening out, when suddenly I realized I was too lazy to go all the way back home to get dressed before heading out.
After the salon, off I went to my local drugstore to find some temporary, one-night only, beauty product finds.
I quickly picked up this drugstore brow pencil. I chose it because it was one of the few that had a spooly on the other end for blending. Since then, I’ve been using it on my brows. It’s that good! Been keeping my brows on fleek too.
NYC Smooth Loose Face Powder
Let’s talk about skin for second. It’s a real rare thing for me to buy anything for my skin in a drugstore. But here it is—I can’t live without NYC Smooth Loose Face Powder.
I use this translucent powder to set my colour corrector underneath my eyes. It was only supposed to be temporary until I got the hang of blending correctors to conceal dark under eye circles.
The idea was, I’d get it right, then invest in the good stuff. But can I tell you, I’m actually still using this product. Hey, it does the job! Sets my under eye colour corrector just right to keep me looking bright eyed and bushy tail all day.
