A creative partnership with AMREF Health Africa in Canada, spanning brand, video, digital, and stewardship-focused publications.
Some of the most meaningful creative work doesn’t happen all at once. It unfolds gradually through listening, learning, refining, and returning to the same mission with deeper understanding each time.
Long-term creative partnerships allow space for this kind of continuity. They create room for context, nuance, and care. And over time, they move beyond execution toward stewardship.
Our work with AMREF Health Africa in Canada has followed that path — spanning brand design, storytelling and video, digital evolution, and publications — each piece connected by a shared commitment to clarity, respect, and trust.
Commemorating a Milestone with Care
Brand Design for AMREF Canada’s 50th Anniversary
Marking a milestone like a 50th anniversary requires restraint as much as creativity.
The goal was not to reinvent AMREF Canada’s brand, but to honour its legacy — to acknowledge five decades of impact without disrupting the visual equity and recognition the organization has built over time.
The anniversary identity was designed to sit comfortably alongside AMREF’s core brand, flexible enough to be used across materials and channels, and symbolic without being overstated. It was created to commemorate, not to compete — a visual marker of continuity rather than change.
In moments like these, design becomes a quiet form of respect. It signals longevity, trust, and care for the organization’s history while allowing space for what comes next. Learn more about this brand design process.
Why AMREF? Why Now?
Storytelling & Video
The video work for AMREF Health Africa in Canada focused on editing a long-form strategic conversation into a concise, digestible piece without losing its substance.
The source material was a webinar hosted for AMREF Health Africa in Canada’s internal community, where AMREF’s Global CEO, Dr. Githinji Gitahi, framed the organization’s mission around a compelling idea: for Africa to be a prosperous continent, it must first be a healthy one.
In conversation, AMREF Canada’s Executive Director, Navin Singh, follows up to help clarify this framing for the audience, drawing out the relationship between health, productivity, and long-term prosperity at a continental scale.
Dr. Gitahi challenges the tendency to think about health in narrow terms, often reduced to individual conditions or interventions such as HIV, malaria, or maternal outcomes. Instead, he positions health as foundational infrastructure — the condition that enables education, civic participation, economic contribution, and accountable governance.
In this framing, health becomes a matter of social justice. Without it, people cannot fully participate in society or exercise other fundamental rights. Health is not a standalone outcome; it is what makes everything else possible.
Dr. Gitahi describes health as “the great escape” — the point at which individuals and communities are able to move out of poverty and into prosperity. Healthcare, then, is not simply about treatment or prevention. It is about agency, dignity, and long-term productivity.
The video editing approach reflected the nature of the conversation itself, prioritizing clarity and intent over compression — allowing AMREF’s strategic vision to be communicated with depth, restraint, and respect. Watch the 5-minute cut below.
Digital Alignment, Not Reinvention
A Visual Refresh for AMREF Canada’s Website
As AMREF Health Africa in Canada continues to grow and engage supporters, clarity and consistency across digital touch points becomes increasingly important.
The website visual refresh focused on alignment rather than overhaul — bringing AMREF Canada’s digital presence into closer visual conversation with other AMREF regional offices globally. The goal was to reinforce trust, coherence, and confidence, while preserving the existing structure that supports fundraising and communications efforts.
By refining visual hierarchy, colour use, and layout consistency, the site was better positioned to support storytelling and donor engagement without disrupting workflows or requiring wholesale change.
Sometimes the most effective digital work is the least visible: thoughtful adjustments that quietly strengthen credibility and ease of use over time. Explore the visually refreshed website.
Designing for Stewardship
A Reusable Magazine Template
Rather than producing a one-off publication, the magazine work focused on building internal capacity.
The magazine was designed as a reusable template, intended to support stewardship and long-form storytelling over time. The format — 11” high by 25.5” wide, folding down to 8.5” x 11” — balances editorial presence with practical print considerations.
Typography was approached with accessibility in mind, with a minimum font size of 14pt to support legibility across audiences. The layout accommodates a range of content types, from donor letters and feature stories to research insights and reflections, while maintaining visual consistency throughout.
Importantly, the final deliverable was provided as an editable InDesign file, enabling AMREF’s internal team to update content, adjust page counts, and reuse the framework as needed. This reduces production lift while preserving design quality allowing the tool to evolve alongside the organization’s needs.
It’s a reminder that good design isn’t just about what’s published, but about what’s sustainable. Learn more about our graphic design services.

A Note on Partnership
Over time, creative partnerships become less about deliverables and more about trust. As AMREF Health Africa in Canada reflected on our work together:
“We are so happy to support a small Canadian business that offers such a high level of expertise and customer service.”
— Jacqui Terry-Carroll, Director of Philanthropy, AMREF Health Africa in Canada
It’s feedback we hold with care, not because it speaks to output, but because it reflects the kind of relationship we aim to build: grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared purpose.
Designing with Continuity
Brand, story, digital, and publications are not separate efforts. When approached thoughtfully, they work together in service of one mission.
Our partnership with AMREF Health Africa in Canada is a reminder that design is most powerful when it evolves alongside an organization. When creative work is rooted in understanding and trust, it becomes something more enduring than a single project. It becomes stewardship.
