Hello, Ontario

website design agency in Toronto

The Ask

See Girl Work delivered accessible, bilingual website design for ACCHO’s Hello Ontario, including UX strategy and AODA-compliant development.

Hello, Ontario serves as a vital online resource for individuals living with HIV in Ontario, particularly for those who are new to the province. With over 31,000 people estimated to be living with HIV in Ontario, the website is a critical tool for connecting individuals to necessary treatment, support, and care services. However, the website needed a significant update.

The ask was to execute a UX-led redesign and development of Hello, Ontario, transforming it from an information hub into a dynamic, engaging resource that resonates with a younger, diverse population of new Ontarians living with HIV.

The redesigned website needed to enhance its visual appeal, improve navigation for ease of use, and deliver an accessible, bilingual experience that complied with AODA best practices for all users.

The Solution

Visual design for some key pages

To ensure the redesigned Hello, Ontario website was user-centric and effective, we started by conducting an environmental scan of disruptors in the health advocacy space. This research helped us understand industry best practices and informed our UX and content strategy. In addition, we gathered input from the client and their partners to ensure the website would be intuitive, accessible, and inclusive for its users.

We focused on improving the site’s structure and user experience with several key actions:

  • We conducted a comprehensive content audit to assess and organize existing content.
  • The menu was condensed to simplify navigation and guide users directly to essential pages.
  • We overhauled the information architecture to create a more unified and logical structure across the site.
  • A content strategy was developed to map all content to user journeys, ensuring that each user interaction was seamless.
  • In addition to the website, we redesigned the Hello, Ontario pocket guide PDF to match the new online experience.

We began with wireframes, which serve as blueprints for the website. This phase helped us align the entire team, including the client, on the site’s structure and content flow. Wireframes provided a clear visual representation of how users would navigate the site and allowed us to make quick adjustments to the user experience. Given the content-rich nature of the site, we moved quickly into high-fidelity wireframes to better capture the intended look and feel.

During the visual design phase, we transformed the wireframes into a sleek, modern design. The use of white space, premium photography, and tight grids gave the site a polished yet approachable look, making it both authoritative and easy to navigate.

The front-end design was built with user-friendliness in mind, ensuring that users could easily search and filter for relevant information. On the back-end, we implemented a robust development process, requiring complex functionality and detailed code to ensure the site operated smoothly and efficiently.

The Results

By working closely with the client, See Girl Work helped ACCHO achieve its goal of supporting its audience and business objectives with a modern, user-friendly website. The redesigned site is now intuitive, accessible, and inclusive, offering a seamless experience for users.

This project successfully brought new life to the digital presence of Hello, Ontario, providing essential resources for individuals living with HIV/AIDS who are new to Ontario. Through this collaboration, See Girl Work created a more engaging and supportive online space for the community, improving access to vital information and services.
