The Ask

High Park Nature Centre, established in 1999, is a vital community organization that provides nature-based programming to a diverse audience of over 14,000 people annually, including parents, children, and educators from across the Greater Toronto Area.

With a strong commitment to fostering environmental education and engagement, the Nature Centre sought to expand its reach and enhance its digital presence. To achieve this, they recognized the need for a comprehensive website redesign that would support their growing audience and strategic goals.

The ask was to create a modern, dynamic website that would not only reflect the Nature Centre’s mission and values but also serve as a powerful tool to increase web traffic, particularly among organic audiences.

The new website would need to support the Nature Centre’s digital marketing efforts, such as content-driven campaigns through e-newsletters and social media, with the aim of boosting brand awareness, engagement, and authority within the community. Additionally, the site had to streamline the process for registrations, memberships, and donations, making it easier for supporters to connect with the Centre and get involved.

With an eye on expanding their digital footprint, the Nature Centre required a website that would allow for the seamless deployment of digital advertising strategies while enhancing the overall user experience.

The ultimate goal was to create a website that was not only visually appealing and easy to navigate but also functional and effective in advancing the Nature Centre’s objectives for growth and community impact.

The Solution

HPNC_Design

Visual design for some key pages

To achieve the goals for High Park Nature Centre’s website redesign, we implemented a strategic, multi-faceted approach. First, we built the new website on a WordPress CMS using the Elementor page builder, which allowed us to create a flexible, user-friendly platform that could easily grow with the Centre’s needs. We developed a custom visual design and layout that authentically reflected the Nature Centre’s identity, incorporating their unique iconography, illustrations, and photography to engage visitors and communicate their mission.

Accessibility was a priority, so we implemented best practices throughout the site, including large fonts, a consistent title hierarchy, proper use of colour contrast, alt text for images, and well-structured hyperlinks to ensure the website was fully accessible to all users. We also improved the e-commerce experience to streamline the process of registrations, memberships, and donations, making it easier for visitors to support the Nature Centre’s programs.

To highlight events and promote engagement, we upgraded the events calendar to enhance visibility for annual events, improve the promotion of one-off events, and ensure easy shareability with media and partners. In addition, we produced six original social media videos to drive content engagement, along with five custom-branded Instagram graphic templates to strengthen the Centre’s social media presence.

Finally, we activated a two-week paid social media content campaign to further amplify the Centre’s digital reach, increase brand awareness, and encourage more registrations, memberships, and donations, ultimately driving growth for the Nature Centre and its mission.

The Results

Through our partnership with High Park Nature Centre, we successfully delivered a website that was easy to navigate, fully accessible, and aligned with their professional yet fun and human culture. The new site improved user experience and increased engagement.

To further amplify their branding strategy, we created original videos, designed custom social media templates, and executed a targeted content campaign that drove more online traffic to the new site, boosting their digital presence and supporting their overall growth.
