Innu First Nations Thumb

The Ask

The Innu First Nations community required a culturally relevant and impactful awareness campaign to address the serious health risks associated with smoking.

The goal was to create an engaging video resource to educate community members, particularly youth, about the dangers of smoking, the benefits of smoke-free spaces, and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles.

To ensure accessibility and resonance within the community, the video needed to be available in both English and Innu and formatted for social media platforms like Facebook.

Storyboard Sketches

We developed a comprehensive approach to meet the unique needs of this project:

  • Content Development: Collaborated with community stakeholders to craft a script that addressed smoking prevention, lung cancer awareness, and the promotion of healthy habits in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Translation and Voiceover: Partnered with professional Innu translators to ensure the messaging was linguistically accurate and culturally relevant.
  • Animation Design: Created a vibrant and engaging 2-minute animated video tailored for Facebook’s horizontal (16:9) format. The animation was designed to visually convey key health messages while appealing to both youth and adults.
  • Thumbnail Graphics: Designed custom thumbnail graphics for each video to grab attention and encourage clicks on Facebook.
  • Production Collaboration: Worked alongside Maku Productions to bring the vision to life with high-quality animation and voiceover integration.

The Results

The project resulted in two impactful 2-minute animated videos—one in English and one in Innu—that effectively communicated the dangers of smoking and the importance of smoke-free environments. The videos featured culturally appropriate visuals and language, ensuring strong resonance with the Innu First Nations audience. Designed for Facebook, the videos included eye-catching thumbnail graphics, encouraging higher engagement and shares within the community. By emphasizing prevention and promoting healthy choices, the campaign successfully supported the Innu First Nations in their mission to improve public health and empower youth to lead smoke-free lives.
