Parent Involvement Advisory Committee

PIAC website

The Ask

The Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) needed a comprehensive and accessible online resource hub to better support parents, caregivers, and school council members within the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). The hub needed to be user-friendly, easy to navigate, and straightforward for the client to manage from the backend, while aligning with accessibility standards and addressing the diverse needs of their community.

The Solution

To meet PIAC’s objectives, we implemented a thoughtful and inclusive strategy:

  1. Stakeholder Collaboration
    • We conducted in-depth consultations to identify the needs of PIAC, parents, caregivers, school council members, and other stakeholders, ensuring the hub addressed their goals and challenges effectively.
  2. Resource Hub Development
    • Designed and developed an intuitive, easy-to-navigate website that provided a centralized location for resources, tools, and information tailored to parents and school council members.
  3. Accessibility Best Practices
    • Applied AODA compliance and accessibility best practices to ensure the website was inclusive for users with varying abilities. This included features such as alt text for images, high-contrast design, and keyboard navigation functionality.
  4. Streamlined Backend Management
    • Built a user-friendly backend that enabled PIAC’s team to efficiently update content, add resources, and manage the website independently.
  5. Enhanced Visual Design
    • Improved the layout and aesthetics of the site to make it welcoming, professional, and aligned with PIAC’s commitment to fostering positive partnerships in education.

The Results

The new resource hub became a powerful tool for PIAC, offering parents, caregivers, and school council members a clear and accessible platform to find information and resources that support student success. By prioritizing usability and accessibility, the site increased engagement, empowered stakeholders, and reinforced PIAC’s role as a vital partner in education within the TDSB community. The streamlined backend allowed the client to maintain and update the site with ease, ensuring its sustainability for years to come.
